Police say a 12-year-old boy was shot overnight in Brownsville by another child inside of an apartment building.
According to the NYPD, a 12-year-old boy was shot inside the lobby of 325 Bristol St. at around 9:20 p.m. Tuesday. Police believe that a group of approximately eight to 12 kids were playing in the lobby of the building when one of those kids pulled out a gun and fired at the 12-year-old.
Police say he was shot in the shoulder but is currently in stable condition at Maimonides Hospital and is expected to survive.
NYPD officers spent hours on scene analyzing surveillance video footage and speaking with witnesses. Chief of Detectives James Essig broke down the details of the overnight investigation in a news conference on Wednesday.
"Based on video and witness accounts, we believe one of the youths removed a magazine from a firearm, pointed it at the victim, and pulled that trigger. There was no prior disputes or arguments prior to that incident."
Police recovered both bullet casings and the gun from the scene. No arrests have been made at this time.
