Police say they are looking for two men in connection to the shooting of two teens near an elementary school and day care centers in Coney Island just after midnight on Sunday.

Police say the two 17-year-olds were shot in front of 2801 West 33rd St.

Officials say the teenagers are expected to be OK.

News 12 spoke with day care workers in the area, like Erika Tejada, who says that more can be done to keep the community safe.

“I would like to see police around the area. I’d love to see them take extra measures in the area to make sure people are safe in schools, in the neighborhood, anywhere," said Tejada.

News 12 reached out to Operation H.O.O.D, a Coney Island nonprofit committed to decreasing violence in the area.

A spokesperson says they plan on holding a shooting response event to talk to the community know about the incident. They also say they are looking at changing their operation hours to increase security in the area.

Police say the suspects were described as two men wearing dark clothing.

They say they fled southbound on West 33rd Street in a gray sedan with tinted windows and a missing rear passenger window.

Anyone with information is urged to call the police.
