The NYPD is asking people take extra precaution as ATM scams are on the rise.

According to the NYPD, scammers are installing skimming devices on terminals to capture customer information from credit, debit and EBT cards.

They say ATM users should inspect the machines before using them, pull at the edges of keypads before entering a PIN, cover the keypad during usage and checking account balances frequently.

Police say people should be cognizant of their surroundings when using the machines.
