Police officials said on Thursday that they see more drinking and driving during the holidays than any other time of the year.

This is why the NYPD will be increasing sobriety check points across all five boroughs ahead of New Year's.
Key locations will be patrolled by officers.

"Entire families are left to pick up the pieces, survivors face lifelong injury and emotional trauma," said Chief Philip Rivera.

Vision Zero, NYC's initiative to improve street safety, will be used as well.

The city will support two important pieces of legislation sponsored in the latest session in Albany - to reduce drugged driving and lower the DWI threshold.

Drivers are being told to plan ahead and do the right thing.
