Dozens of officers and civilians received a major upgrade from the NYPD. 
Commissioner Bill Bratton oversaw the ceremony promoting 40 officers to detective, while some civilian workers made the transition to traffic enforcement. 
There were also 29 sergeants promoted to lieutenant and seven lieutenants to captain. 
In Brooklyn North, borough Commander Gerald Nelson was promoted to three-star chief.
