NYPD officers shot a suspect three times Wednesday night near an East New York deli, police say.
The incident occurred around 6:30 p.m. in the area of Van Siclen Avenue New Lots avenues
Officials say three police officers were driving in an unmarked vehicle when they noticed a Toyota Camry veering in and out of traffic with no headlights on. The officers then attempted to pull over the vehicle, which they say ignored the officers.
Police say the car came to a stop in front of 613 Van Siclen Ave., and the suspect got out of the car with a gun in his hand. The suspect allegedly walked toward the officers and pointed the gun at them.
That is when two out of the three officers fired their weapons, and hit the suspect three times, according to police.
Officials say the suspect was struck in the stomach, leg and arm.
The suspect was transported to Brookdale Hospital where he is in critical condition.
Police say they recovered the suspect's gun at the scene, which upon further investigation was determined to be a pellet gun.
Officials say the officers involved were also sent to an area hospital for observation.
