NYPD: Councilwoman Susan Zhuang arrested, charged with felony assault at protest

A New York City elected official is now behind bars and being charged with a felony after her alleged violent behavior at a protest against a homeless shelter.
According to the NYPD, the protest involved over 150 participants and took place at around 7 a.m. Councilwoman Susan Zhuang, 38, who serves as the representative for the City Council's 43rd District, now faces charges of second-degree felony assault, resisting arrest, obstruction and third-degree assault.
At a press conference held by the NYPD, officials said that Zhuang allegedly bit one of the officers manning the protest on the arm. Kaz Daughtry, the deputy commissioner of operations, showed one photo of an officer's arm with a visible bite mark and another photo showing Zhuang allegedly taking that bite.

Another man, 57-year-old Thanh Nguyen, was also arrested. He has been charged with assaulting a police officer.
