NYPD data shows a 14% rise in rapes in Brooklyn North, with the most recent case occurring in Ocean Hill last Thursday.

Police say a 22-year-old woman was attacked on Saratoga Avenue and Herkimer Street, where a man assaulted her from behind, punched her, strangled her and sexually assaulted her.

The suspect remains at large.

NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch attributes the increase in rape cases to domestic violence-related incidents, urging a closer look of domestic violence prevention efforts.

Advocacy groups like the Urban Resource Institute are also sounding the alarm.

"One in three individuals will be impacted by domestic violence," said Nathaniel Fields, the organization’s CEO.

Fields emphasized the importance of resources for those committing the harm, noting that arrests alone won't solve the issue.
