Police say an officer shot and killed a knife-wielding man during a domestic dispute in Sheepshead Bay Friday evening.
Investigators say a woman called 911 at around 5 p.m. Friday evening because she was having a dispute with her son, 28-year-old Denis Volchkin. When police arrived at her home at Avenue Y and East 26th Street, she told them her son had already left. The officers then wrote up a report and resumed their patrol.
The woman called 911 again at around 7 p.m. to say her son had returned, this time armed with several knives. Police say they found Volchkin on the second floor and when responding officers approached him, they say he refused to drop the knives and lunged at them. One officer opened fire and shot him in the torso.
Volchkin was taken to Coney Island Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The officers involved were also taken to a local hospital to be checked out.
Volchkin also made headlines back in May. Reports say he had a run-in with Jonathan Cheban, a regular on the TV show "Keeping Up With the Kardashians."
The reports say Volchkin tried to attack Cheban at a Brooklyn sushi restaurant, but the star's bodyguard punched him in the face. The bodyguard is facing assault charges in the incident.
