Police are searching for a driver who they say fled the scene of a deadly hit-and-run which killed a 71-year-old woman and injured a 44-year-old woman in Bushwick.
Sources tell News 12 that the woman who lost her life was the daughter of the 44-year-old victim. The deceased has been identified as Juanita Vidal, 71.
According to police, the incident took place just after 5 p.m. on Thursday on the corner of Eldert Street and Knickerbocker Avenue. An NYPD vehicle attempted to perform a traffic stop on the blue Mazda CX5 and the car fled the stop heading northbound on Eldert Street.
Police say that the driver of the Mazda ran through two stop signs before swerving to the left to avoid collision with a car traveling westbound on Knickerbocker Avenue.
After veering left, the car failed to operate properly on the road, striking the Vidal and the 44-year-old as they were crossing Eldert Street.
The Mazda then struck a parked Chevrolet van. The male driver then fled on foot from his vehicle, which had Massachusetts plates.
Police say the man had a ponytail and was wearing a blue shirt and jeans.
