Students will be receiving lessons for the first-ever Harbor Safety Program. It's a new partnership between the NYPD and the Department of Education.
The four-week program will take 17 students from two different high schools to learn boat safety. At the end of the program, they'll receive a certificate from the program.
High school junior Jordy Almonte says he enjoyed learning how boats work.
"I've never actually been on a boat, so this a whole brand-new experience," said Almonte.
The students will even get to ride on one of the NYPD boats alongside the Harbor Unit. The NYPD says they hope to keep the program running with new students every year.
