The NYPD hosted some of New York's children and young adults at Kaiser Park in Coney Island Tuesday for a day of fun, games and community building.
The first ever Explorer Extravaganza is an event aimed at bringing together kids and cops to strengthen the community.
Organizers say that targeting the explorers at a young age will help them develop a good relationship with police and firefighters.
Several public and private agencies donated funds to make the event possible.
Organizers and participants say they hope the event becomes an annual tradition.
