A 38-year-old man shot and killed early Friday morning in Bushwick was identified by police as Matthew Franklin.

Police say the shooting happened around 1 a.m. near the corner of Pilling Street and Broadway Avenue. Police say the victim was found with a gunshot wound to the stomach and was rushed to Brookdale Hospital, where he died.

Dean Estrada witnessed the aftermath of the shooting.

“I heard somebody saying ‘get back here, get back here’ and then there was gunfire. And then they were screaming ‘call 911.’ It was really frightening. I heard it and then when I looked out the window, he was on the ground," said Estrada.

Police say they are searching for a man around 6 feet tall and in his 30s. They say he was last seen wearing a gray hat, a green jacket and black pants.

As of Saturday evening, no arrests have been made.
