A procession brought home the body of NYPD Officer Jonathan Diller to Massapequa Park Tuesday evening.
The fallen officer's body was brought to the funeral home where memorial services will be held later this week.
Crowds, including Diller's widow and other loved ones, gathered at the Massapequa Funeral Home South Chapel as the officer's remains were returned to the South Shore community he lived in.
Police say Diller was fatally shot during a traffic stop in Queens on Monday night. The 31-year-old had been on the force for three years.
As they walked toward the car, the NYPD says a man inside shot at them, hitting Diller in the torso below his bulletproof vest.
Diller was brought to Jamaica Hospital where he died from his injuries.
Diller’s partner shot the suspected shooter in the back. The suspect was taken to Jamaica Hospital Medical Center and his condition is unknown.
Authorities say the driver of the vehicle had a gun arrest in April 2023.
This is the first line of duty death for the NYPD in two years.
Diller leaves behind a wife and a young child.
Visitation will be held for Diller on Thursday and Friday from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Massapequa Funeral Home in Massapequa Park. A funeral Mass will be held at St. Rose of Lima Roman Catholic Church in Massapequa on Saturday at 10:30 a.m.
