(AP) - A New York City police officer has been indicted on charges of vehicular manslaughter and accused of driving drunk in an accident that killed a pastor's daughter on a Brooklyn street.
Andrew Kelly pleaded not guilty to the charges. Prosecutors say he was off-duty drinking at a bar before he got behind the wheel Sept. 26. Vionique Valnord was killed as she tried to hail a cab after a wedding reception.
His lawyer says he wasn't drunk, as blood alcohol tests show. He says the incident was a "terrible accident."
Police say two other officers have been suspended in the incident, one for leaving the scene and another for supplying Kelly with gum and water.
