Three NYPD officers jumped into action during an attempted robbery at a Weeksville deli.
The incident happened around 11 p.m. Friday.
Jameel Kassim, the victim's son, says a man who had been lurking around the Super Nice Deli came to the entrance asking if he could use the restroom.
When his father, Hassan Kassim, said no, the son says the man "started punching my father at first in his mouth and then the second one was in his head."
Kassim's brother, who also works at the deli, rushed in to help. The two were able to grab the suspect's gun, but he then took out another and shot Hassan Kassim.
Three anti-crime NYPD officers in plainclothes were in the area and quickly came to their aid after being flagged down by a customer.
Kassim was taken to Kings County Hospital and was released Monday.
The suspect, who has not yet been identified, was taken into police custody and is expected to be charged with assault and first-degree robbery.
