The NYPD is ramping up its security efforts to protect New Yorkers amid rising tensions in New York City as a result of the war in the Middle East.
Officials say all members of service of every rank of the force have been directed to report in uniform on Friday. They should be ready to be deployed to any part of the city experiencing violence and unrest.
The heightened efforts come as protests and rallies both in favor of Israel and Palestine have erupted across the city.
Thursday afternoon, a pro-Palestine rally is being held outside of Brooklyn College. It's being organized by a group called Students for Justice in Palestine, which has called for a "National Day of Resistance" at colleges across the country.
Council Member Inna Vernikov and Council MemberKalman Yeger wrote a letter to CUNY demanding they shut down for the rest of the week to protect Jewish students. They say their request was denied.
