The NYPD has begun new training on conflict resolution and use of force.
The training follows the death of Staten Island dad Eric Garner after being put in a chokehold by police back in July. The medical examiner ruled his death a homicide.
However, a spokesperson for the police department says Commissioner Bill Bratton had planned to create the new training program before the Garner incident.
Training started at the police academy Monday and is expected to reach patrol officers beginning next month.
