The NYPD says a shooting broke out on Wednesday afternoon near a school in Downtown Brooklyn.
Police say it happened around 1 p.m. on the corner of Livingston and Smith Streets, right before student dismissal at Brooklyn Frontiers High School.
The NYPD says shots rang out, but no one was injured.
The Department of Education told News 12 the school briefly went into shelter-in-place protocol before resuming its regular dismissal procedures.
"They're brave to do it during the daytime, but this is where a lot of students go to school," a nearby resident told News 12. "A lot of kids go to school here, so it’s really crazy."
This shooting comes just days after the NYPD announced a new plan to increase patrols in high-crime areas like Downtown Brooklyn, where crime rose by 25% in 2024, compared to the previous year.
Police are searching for two men in connection to the shooting.
