In an effort to increase security, the New York Police Department will be placing surveillance cameras throughout Brooklyn and the city. The 500 cameras will be installed in the busiest parts of the city, starting with Brooklyn. Police Commissioner Ray Kelly would not identify where the cameras are going to be placed, but says they will be visible so people know they are being watched. Transportation agencies already have about 1,000 cameras in the subways and another 2,100 are scheduled to be in place by 2008.
