Investigators are one step closer to identifying a man and woman brutally killed in Brooklyn with the help of a new DNA testing method.
The NYPD is applying phenotyping, a transformative technology that allows people to be identified based on their appearance using DNA, to criminal investigations.
The first time the tech was used was in a 2015 homicide case. Body parts of a woman, whose named is believed to be Monique based on a tattoo, were found in South Brooklyn. She's yet to be identified. The body parts of a man found in Williamsburg and Bedford-Stuyvesant in 2005 have also not yet been identified.
Investigators are using the tech to form composites of the victims in an attempt to solve their cases.
