Police say they have arrested a woman in connection to the newborn found dead inside of a dumpster in Coney Island.
According to investigators, 27-year-old Jahmika Small, of Brooklyn, is facing charges of reckless endangerment and act in a manner injurious to a child less than 17 years of age.
Police say they found the baby after receiving a 911 call from the mother, who said she had given birth but didn't know where the newborn was.
Police say they searched the area and found the baby unconscious and unresponsive inside of a dumpster in the parking lot of 2925 W. 27th St., about a block away from the mother’s home just before 5 p.m. Wednesday.
The mother told investigators she had given birth to the child earlier and had thrown the baby in the garbage.
The medical examiner is investigating to determine the cause of death.
