The city's Office of Emergency Management unveiled a new superhero character to help families prepare for the unexpected.
Ready Girl met students from P.S. 39 at the Brooklyn Superhero Supply Co. Wednesday to teach them preparedness.
Ready Girl's philosophy for handling emergencies is built around planning ahead.
She says families should stock up on supplies like batteries ahead of time so that they're available when needed.
She recommends storing them in an emergency kit along with a flashlight, canned food, water and a map.
Kids should also have at least two phone numbers they can call during emergency situations -- one local and one out of state.
