Officials say that a former police officer from the Bronx, his wife and two daughters died of smoke inhalation yesterday in a fire at their Putnam County home.

According to the victim's brother-in-law and veteran NYPD captain, Thomas Sullivan helped save his son from the flames before running back inside in an attempt to rescue his wife and two daughters.

Police are still investigating whether the fire was suspicious in nature. Officials say no 911 calls came from inside the home and that there were multiple smoke detectors inside, but none sent an alarm to a monitoring station.

Sullivan served almost seven years with the NYPD in the borough before going to work in Westchester County.
