Police officers shot and injured an armed man in Flatbush early Sunday morning, according to authorities.
Police officials say that at around 12:45 a.m., a 25-year-old man jumped into an unmarked car occupied by two plainclothes officers. They say he hopped in one of the passenger doors as the car waited at a red light at Nostrand Avenue and Avenue D.
Police say the suspect grabbed a sergeant's gun after a struggle and ran away.
Three uniformed officers responded to the scene and told the suspect to drop the gun. Instead of complying, police say the suspect exchanged fire with the officers. One of the officers who was in the patrol car then got out and shot the suspect in the torso and lower leg.
The suspect, whose identity has not been released, is listed in critical but stable condition at Kings County Hospital.
A sergeant and four police officers were also hospitalized with tinnitus, or ringing in the ears, following the shooting. None of the officers were shot, and all have been treated and released.
