Police are searching for a man they say pretended to be a police officer earlier this month.

Officials say he approached a 13-year-old girl on West 5th Street in Gravesend and asked for her school ID. When the girl told the man she did not have an ID, he reaffirmed her that he is a police officer and could arrest her.

According to police, something spooked the man and he ran off.
