An underground water leak led to a sinkhole that nearly swallowed a school bus on 23rd Street between Fifth and Sixth avenues Tuesday, officials say.
Some residents were without water after the 3:45 p.m. collapse, and the street has been closed since then.
Crews spent much of Wednesday working to find the source of the leak and make repairs.
Eric Landau, a spokesman for the Department of Environmental Protection, says that water service has been restored.
The school bus driver was taken to the hospital with minor injuries, but no children were aboard the bus during the incident, Landau says.
Workers say the street may not reopen for several more days.
