Some Long Island drivers are satisfied with the way gas prices have dropped steadily since reaching record highs earlier this year.

Prices for gas across Long Island hit their peak this summer at over $5 a gallon.

The AAA now reports that the average price on Long Island for a gallon of regular unleaded is $3.50 and dropping.

Oil experts say the prices for fuel is falling due to slow European sanctions on Russian oil, recession fears and that people are driving less.

Andy Harris, of the Long Island Gasoline Retailers Association, says station owners are seeing a major decrease in the amount of fuel being purchased on Long Island.

"The demand season is down right now - the peak season has ended so I tink it should come down even further," Harris says.

The New York state and local gas tax holiday that were put into effect when prices were higher will expire in the new. That could add another 20 cents per gallon.
