One of the oldest business improvement districts in New York, Brighton Beach will be 20 years old this year and residents say there is just so much to love about the area.In the 1970s, the neighborhood became rundown and crime ridden and residents say they feared for their safety. A flood of Russian immigrants, however, came in and began rebuilding the area with stores and restaurants. Now, the neighborhood is known as ?Little Odessa" or Brooklyn's Little Russia by the Sea. Brighton Beach is also home to one of the largest Russian book stores in the United States. Many people say the best time to visit Brighton Beach is during the Brighton Jubilee, which is being held Sunday, August 27.
