The 422 Fulton Street Macy's store location – known for its various products in fashion, beauty, home decor and beyond – is closing their doors for the very last time on Sunday evening.
The closures are part of Macy's "Bold New Chapter" strategy, which seeks to improve the workflow of operations by investing in other higher-performing locations. The overall goal is to elevate the in-store and online shopping experience. According to the company, within the next three years, Macy's will close a total of 150 underperforming stores while keeping its top 350 stores up and running nationwide.
Monica Ortega, said she was devastated by the news since she shopped there as a child.
"It's just sad to see something that you grew up with and it's part of your life and your history, and it's just being taken away," she said.
A representative from Macy's told News 12 that they are "focused on supporting [their] team and ensuring a smooth transition as [they] wind down operations."
Other stores expected to close this year are located in Fordham Place in the Bronx, Queens Place in Queens, Sheepshead Bay in Brooklyn, Sunrise Mall in Massapequa, and Staten Island.
Macy's will have one last going-out-of-business sale Sunday for shoppers to indulge in.
