Onlookers stop man accused of driving on sidewalk, hitting cars
Onlookers are being credited for pitching in after a man was taken into custody for allegedly hitting multiple cars along Troy Avenue.
Video from a store on the block captured the wild scene around 2:30 p.m. Friday. Footage shows a silver Jaguar driving up on the sidewalk, leaving pedestrians to run to get out of the way. None were hit.
A 39-year-old man behind the wheel allegedly hit at least five parked cars before coming to a stop. Members of the Crown Heights Shmira helped hold the man down after he tried running away. Sources say that at one point, a gun fell out of his pants.
The man was held until police arrived and took him into custody. Sources say an off-duty man in the Coast Guard helped detain him. No charges have been filed as of yet.
