A new initiative is working to curb violence on the streets of East Flatbush.

Operation Skywatch was kicked off by the 67th Precinct Clergy Council and aims to bridge the gap between police and community members.

Police have been stepping up patrols in the area and a skywatch tower was added Thursday.

Members of the council announced the initiative of Operation Skywatch today in the effort to prevent a summertime spike in violence. The council serves as a liason between the police department and the community.

Pastors say they hope their presence resonates with young people. Those nearby say they welcome both the increased security and the support from the clergy.

More NYPD skywatch towers will be going up in the area across the summer, and members of the clergy council say they will be there when they go up to speak to community members.
