A Brooklyn motorcyclist whose life was saved by an organ donation is paying it forward.
Dave Kaufman, 61, says he almost died of a massive heart attack in 2008 while on a long motorcycle ride in upstate New York. He was in the hospital for 21 days. After various treatments, Kaufman's doctor said he would die if he didn't get a heart transplant.
Thanks to the generous family of an organ donor, Kaufman got a heart transplant last year. Not only has the heart helped save Kaufman's life, but it will also hopefully allow him to get back on the road and enjoy motorcycle riding again.
Kaufman is now urging motorcyclists to sign up to be organ donors.
April is National Donate Life Month, so he is planning a motorcycle ride called the Concrete Canyon Run. It will take place in October and raise money for an organ donation campaign.
