Thousands of kids are back in the classroom Monday, including those at P.S. 811X in Crotona Park.

Parents were in high spirits Monday morning, telling News 12 they were confident that their children are in good hands.

District 75 schools, which serve special needs students, were among the schools and age groups that reopened Monday for in-person learning.

Despite a low turnout for in-person learning this year, parents say that their children learn better in the classroom.

"I'm happy because my son was in the house for a long time, and he was tired and didn't feel well in the house; and he likes to go to school,” says parent Gloria Corsino.

Corsino, a mother of two teenagers, says remote learning was extremely difficult for her two sons.

"My son was graduating last year, and we lost 19 years of work and all this time, so he fell backwards,” says Corsino.

P.S. 811X was one of the first schools that recently reported two positive cases. The DOE cleared the building after it was shut down for deep cleaning.

Staff welcomed students back wearing masks and glovesas they guided students for a temp check.
