A Department of Education (DOE) panel has approved a controversial new charter school in Cobble Hill, despite protests from parents.
The Panel for Educational Policy voted yes to moving the school into P.S. 59 on Baltic Street, which already houses three other schools. The DOE says it's part of a plan to create network "hyper" schools with several high-performing charters in one building.
Parents and teachers have protested the idea, arguing that there is not enough room. They loaded buses last night to attend the vote in Queens.
