An incident involving a kindergartner at PS 217 and police has some parents calling for action Monday by the Department of Education.
According to school officials, a 6-year-old kindergarten student became unruly and kicked both the assistant principal and a teacher's aide. They called police and the boy's mother, who says her son was being question by NYPD officers when she arrived. She says her child is traumatized and was made to feel like a criminal.
Parents protesting at the school say they want the DOE to investigate the actions of the school's principal. They are also planning to file a lawsuit. Despite the protest, some parents say the incident was blown out of proportion and add that they are supportive of the staff.
