Parents, friends and community members gathered Wednesday outside I.S. 292 in East New York to show support for the teacher accused of duct taping a student's mouth.
Kenyatte Hughes, the band director at I.S. 292, allegedly duct taped a 9-year-old boy's mouth shut. He maintains that he was trying to teach the student a lesson about slavery.
Parents say they believe what is happening to Hughes is a witch hunt propagated by the principal and administration.
Hughes is charged with assault, endangering the welfare of a child and criminal possession of a weapon.
