Parents rallied in Brownsville Thursday for the city to examine why Brooklyn children are flunking tests in middle school after making the grade in elementary school.

The Brooklyn Education Collaborative points to this year?s state math exam results, where 39 percent of middle schoolers passed compared to 71 percent of fourth-graders. Parents say it?s an injustice to children when they are promoted to the next grade, but don?t measure up. Parent Zakiyah Ansari says she has sent her children to a school farther away from her home because it has a more rigorous curriculum and extracurricular activities to better prepare them for life's challenges.

The Board of Education says all students continue to make improvements.
