Parents rally to keep school doors at CES 88 in the Bronx open

Parents and children rallied together outside CES 88 in the Bronx Friday calling for their school to stay open.
They say the school is in danger of closing because of the declining enrollment rates--with less than 100 students currently in the K-3 school.
They say they recently discovered that the Department of Education is trying to close the school and merge with nearby school P.S. 53.
One advocate says this decision is inequitable especially due to the coronavirus pandemic.
The DOE tells News 12 that the panel for educational policy has moved the vote on closing the school from April to May.
They say it’s to allow for more time to engage and hold meetings with the District 9 community.
