Parents demanded more security at P.S. 108 on Thursday, a day after a man carrying a loaded gun tried to elude police by running into the school.
?Everybody?s nervous, everybody?s worried,? says parent Rafael Torres. "We?re all just sorry these things are happening.?
The security concerns of parents were voiced to school staffers and police after 32-year-old Edwin Austin burst inside the Cypress Hills school Wednesday afternoon.
Parents say their children would be better protected from a similar incident if security patrols were beefed up and surveillance cameras were added.
Many parents have also been complimentary of school staffers.
"We can?t blame the staff. [There?s] nothing they could have possibly done,? says one parent, who adds that as long as the kids were safe she was pleased.
The staff?s effort in evacuating more than 900 students was also commended.
