Brooklyn parents, students and educators turned out in droves Monday to protest the closing of a medical science program at Intermediate School 232.
The Department of Education (DOE) plans to terminate the program when it closes the school in several years. The science program allows students to gain hands-on experience at area hospitals, such as Kingsbrook Jewish Medical Center.
Parents are demanding the DOE reconsider its decision. They argue more public schools need similar programs to give students real-world experience.
United Federation of Teachers President Randi Weingarten joined the protest at the East Flatbush school to lend her support to parents.
