Paterson raised the Union Jack flag to mark the death of Queen Elizabeth II.
The Union Jack is the de facto flag of the United Kingdom.
The Queen’s funeral procession was held on Monday.
“We all feel it. It feels like a family member has left us and that’s what she meant to us,” says Michael Symonds, Paterson resident and British ex-pat. “She really was family. She really was a guiding figure – a constant figure. She’s the only queen I’ve known.”
The Union Jack will fly outside Paterson City Hall until next Monday. The city will also observe a seven-day mourning period for the queen.
