Former state Sen. Pedro Espada Jr. was convicted on four counts of embezzlement in federal court today.
Espada has been a force in Bronx politics for more than three decades, but today's conviction is not the politician's first brush with controversy.
In addition to the Soundview Healthcare Network scandal, Espada was once accused of maintaining his main residence outside the borough. He was also a leader of the so-called Senate coup in the summer of 2009.
