Local lawmakers are introducing new legislation to raise the penalties for trespassing at high-profile structures in New York State.
The move comes just days after the Brooklyn Bridge saw its third security breach in only four months.
The borough president's office says the bill would mean all trespassing cases on critical infrastructures, such as bridges and tunnels, would carry a misdemeanor charge. That could mean as much as one year behind bars and a $1,000 fine.
State law currently doesn't specifically penalize for trespassing on vital infrastructure.
