Police sources say a person remains in custody and is currently being evaluated at a hospital as they investigate the fatal stabbing of an 85-year-old woman inside her Bed-Stuy apartment earlier this week, but no charges have been filed as of Thursday afternoon.

The woman was identified as Julia Boomer, who lived inside an apartment building on Throop Avenue.

Police say officers were called to the building just before 10 p.m. Tuesday after a 911 call reported that a woman had been stabbed. When officers went inside the apartment, they found Boomer lying on her back in the living room with multiple stab and slash wounds, including injuries to her face.

She was rushed to NYC Health + Hospitals/Kings County, where police say she was pronounced dead at 10:41 p.m. The case is being investigated as a homicide.

Police have not publicly identified the person in custody, but sources tell News 12 it is Boomer’s 22-year-old grandson. Authorities have not released a name or said when, or if, charges will be filed.

Investigators have also not confirmed whether the knife used in the stabbing was recovered.

The 911 call log shows a series of urgent calls starting around 9:57 p.m. Dispatch notes indicate a woman could be heard screaming, and someone was heard saying, “Mommy, come with me.” Police have not said who made the calls or whether anyone else was inside the apartment at the time.

Neighbors say the loss has shaken the block. One longtime resident described Boomer as kind and friendly, someone who would often greet people as she passed by.

Police say the investigation remains ongoing.
