Dog lovers will soon be able to run their errands steps away from their furry friends.
The New York City Council is giving the go-ahead to bring high tech doghouses to sidewalks around the five boroughs.
DogSpot is coming back to public sidewalks in Brooklyn.
The Brooklyn-made pet sanctuary promises a climate controlled, spacious, clean and safe space where people can put their dogs while running errands inside of businesses.
"I think that we have to remember that these are extensions of their family. They want to make sure that wherever they are whatever they’re doing that their loved one is safe," says Brooklyn Councilman Rafael Espinal.
Councilman Espinal pushed a bill to allow pet harbors like DogSpot on public sidewalks.
The product was introduced back in 2017, but the Department of Transportation forced the business to remove them from sidewalks.
The city council decided last week that they'll be allowed to come back.
“My goal here is to show that this is not a hindrance on pedestrian traffic on the flow of the city. This is an added benefit,” says Espinal. “This is a business that was created by a woman here in Brooklyn. It’s actually being manufactured in Brooklyn Navy Yard providing a service to dog owners in Brooklyn supporting our small businesses.”
The CEO of DogSpot tells News 12 they hope to have the doghouses back on public sidewalks by late November.
They'll be focusing on getting the pet harbors out to grocery stores, restaurants and other businesses where dogs are not allowed inside.
