The cold weather is brutal, but it's not just you that needs to bundle up. Pets also need special care during the winter.
The ASPCA is reminding pet owners to never let their dogs off the leash in snow or ice because they can lose their scent and easily get lost.
When you come back inside, it's important to thoroughly wipe their paws and stomach. They can ingest salt, antifreeze and other potentially dangerous chemicals that may stick to them from the outdoors.
Remember that if it's too cold for you, it's too cold for your furry friends. Don't leave them outside longer than you would want to be out there.
Also, pet owners should consider a coat or booties, especially for short haired and smaller pooches.
