Two Brooklyn bus routes will be used to test a pilot program aimed at speeding up service.The Bus Rapid Transit program will be tested along the Nostrand Avenue and Hylan Boulevard routes. The program will use cameras to detect cars illegally blocking bus lanes. It will also incorporate devices to control traffic lights and make fewer stops in an effort to improve commutes. Metropolitan Transit Authority officials say the program will begin in 2008 and cost the city $20 million.
