Animals are still being dropped off as a local animal shelter continues to clean up from last week’s flooding.
Hope 4 Paws, otherwise known as the Plainfield-area humane society, was badly damaged by the flooding. The shelter has filled multiple dumpsters with debris. Several kennels that were salvaged are waiting to be cleaned and disinfected.
The facility was hit with about 9 feet of water. Officials with the shelter say everything in their basement was destroyed, from pet food to the boiler. On the first floor is more destruction. Walls have to come down because of the water damage.
Luckily, no animals were hurt.
With all of this going on, animals are still being dropped off.
"We have helped as many rescues as we can with our overage. Many rescues helped us foster our animals, take in our animals. When we started, we had about 80 animals. We have approximately 15-17 in-house now,” says Salvatore Carrano, with the shelter. “All our cats are gone. So, we're very grateful for our partners around surrounding areas taking in our animals and caring for them."
Shelter workers say that they are thankful for the item donations that have continued to come in. They say that they won’t refuse any donations, but they are now asking for monetary donations to help rebuild.
