Police have arrested a 26-year-old man in the shooting of an off-duty NYPD cop that took place Friday morning.Police say the incident occurred at around 12:30 a.m. in front of a building at East 233rd Street and White Plains Road. Michael Williams has been arrested in connection to the shooting. He faces charges of attempted murder and assault on a police officer.
According to police, the officer was walking his dog when Williams approached him and threatened him. Investigators say at some point Williams fired at the officer with a 9 mm gun. Police say the 42-year-old officer returned fire and was grazed by a bullet in the exchange.The officer was taken to Jacobi Hospital to be treated and was later released.Police say they don't yet know what may have caused the incident. They are not releasing the name of the wounded officer.
